Brotherton Weir at Knottingley is the first significant barrier to salmon, sea trout, eel and lamprey passage from the sea to the Aire and Calder river systems.

In close collaboration with the Environment Agency and the Canal & River Trust, Barn Energy has built a 500kW hydropower scheme , delivering a significant proportion of local electricity needs directly to the grid, over 11 months a year
