THE GATEWAY TO THE AIRE AND CALDER

 

  • Brotherton Weir at Knottingley is the first significant barrier to salmon, sea trout, eel and lamprey passage from the sea to the Aire and Calder river systems. 

  • In close collaboration with the Environment Agency and the Canal & River Trust, Barn Energy has built a 500kW hydropower scheme , delivering a significant proportion of local electricity needs directly to the grid, over 11 months a year
